The winners during the Prize-giving Ceremony
KUALA LUMPUR, August 26, 2019 – At the end of the two-month contest duration, started on 17 June 2019 ended on 17 August 2019, the Prize Giving Ceremony was held at Bukit Damansara Kuala Lumpur to awards prizes to the winners of each categories of the VTREC 3-Contest Frenzy in conjunction with PDRM-VTREC Public Awareness Campaign 2019.
The campaign was organised by Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad (VTREC) in collaboration with the Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), with slogan “SAY NO TO VEHICLE THEFT” saw a total of 71 winners from various categories.
Raising awareness of vehicle theft among the member of the public is the aim of the campaign. Over the two-month campaign, various activities and exposures have been shared with the public including ways to prevent vehicle from being stolen. Contests were among the activities for public to participate, among others the main 3 contests were Pledge Wall Contest, Selfie Contest and Sticker Contest and Colouring Contest for the children.

YBhg Dato’ Ooi Win Juat, the Director of VTREC delivered his speech and presented the prizes together with Encik Mohd Yusof bin Idris, Senior Advisor of VTREC. Also present YBhg Dato’ SAC Mohd Soaihami b Rahim, Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti (JPJKK), PDRM Bukit Aman and stakeholders from VTREC and PDRM.
In his speech, YBhg Dato’ Ooi congratulated all the winners on their effort to support the campaign in reducing vehicle theft of the country and urged the general public, public agencies, public sector and all stakeholders to close ranks to combat the crime of vehicle theft. The collaboration between the stakeholders is seen as a fruitful collaboration whereby the record of vehicle theft in Malaysia is slopping down.

YBhg Encik Mohd Yusof bin Idris, VTREC Senior Advisor also speaks during the price giving ceremony highlighting that the vehicle theft rate has been reducing over the years. The vehicle theft crime cases had declined from 42,158 cases in 2017 to 35,953 cases in 2018. The reduction also showed in all categories of vehicle such as motorcycle, motorcar and commercial vehicle. It was a success story of a joint-effort of the stakeholders to put down the vehicle theft crime rate in Malaysia.
While, VTREC’s Manager, Puan Mas Tina binti Abdul Hamid said the two-month campaign exposed the members of public to understand better about vehicle theft and ways to prevent their vehicle from thieves. The campaign was also engaging social media platform, especially in targeting the younger generations.
“The campaign enables the VTREC and PDRM to engage the public closely, share knowledge, sharing about adverse effect of vehicle theft, to get their co-operation to play their role to care for their vehicle such as to park at well-lit and safe area or put an extra mechanical lock to secure their vehicle. Keeping their vehicle safe is priority.”

VTREC and PDRM will continue the awareness programme in forth coming years to draw the public attention to play a role in securing their vehicle and directly to reduce the crime of vehicle theft nationwide.
