CHERAS SELATAN, 12 May 2024: The Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) in collaboration with Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti, Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah (IPD) Kajang had organised a mini-campaign in conjunction with Mother’s Day and “Kempen Kesedaran Awam Kecurian Kenderaan VTREC 2024”. The mini-campaign was specifically designed in promoting to lower down the rate of vehicle theft across the nation.
By promoting public awareness and advocating for behavioural shifts towards safeguarding vehicles, the campaign resonates with its theme, “United Against Vehicle Theft”. The mini-campaign serves as a vital platform for knowledge-sharing and inspiring action, empowering individuals, the public, communities, agencies and other stakeholders to unite against the crime of vehicle theft. The mini-campaign was hosted at AEON Cheras Selatan, Balakong, Selangor.

According to Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC, “in every 2 hours about 1 unit of vehicles will be stolen in 2023. We need to help people to protect their vehicles against thieves and how to recognise the potential signs of unsafe or harmful areas to park their vehicle, to further improve their well-being”. The PDRM-VTREC Vehicle Theft Public Awareness Mini Campaign is one of the effective ways to reach out to the public for awareness-rising and a crucial platform for empowering the public and communities to make a difference through attitude and behavioural change against vehicle theft crime.

Several activities were arranged, to encourage people to take action, participate, support and pledge including an engagement wall, wheel of fortune, steering lock competition, quizzes, doodle wall, wheel of fortunes and as the mini-campaigns climax, a primary school colouring contest. This colouring contest has received applications from up to 30 children between the ages of 5 years old and 12 years old. The colouring competition took place from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm at the same venue. Each participant had the opportunity to express their creativity on the provided drawing paper. The most important outcome is to make sure the contestants are able to raise awareness to take care of our vehicle in the early stages.
During the event, both the public and attending parents had the chance to explore different activities. Apart from showing support for their children, they also had the opportunity to take home a variety of complimentary souvenirs.
